How the Econ Button Works
Honda ECON Button: What It Does & When to Use It
At Whitby Oshawa Honda, we know that fuel efficiency is one of the top priorities for today’s drivers—especially with rising fuel costs and long commutes in the GTA. That’s why we’re here to help you get the most out of your Honda with one simple feature: the ECON button.
What Does the Honda ECON Button Do?
The ECON mode is designed to help your vehicle operate more efficiently by adjusting performance settings to prioritize fuel savings. When activated, it modifies how certain systems in your Honda behave to reduce fuel consumption:
-
Throttle Response – ECON mode smooths out acceleration, preventing aggressive throttle input and helping you drive more efficiently.
-
Cruise Control – It reduces aggressive gear shifting while cruise control is active, allowing the engine to stay in more fuel-efficient ranges.
-
Air Conditioning – ECON mode lowers the demand on the A/C system, using just enough power to maintain comfort while saving energy.
When Should You Use ECON Mode?
ECON mode is ideal for city driving, daily commutes, and light cruising, where smooth acceleration and reduced A/C output won’t compromise performance. It’s not recommended for highway passing, towing, or when you need maximum power—turn it off for those situations.
How to Activate It
You’ll find the ECON button to the left of the steering wheel in most Honda models. Just press it, and when you see the green leaf icon light up on the dash, ECON mode is active. Press it again to turn it off.
