Electronic Parking Brake and Brake Hold Tutorial
Electric Parking Brake with Automatic Brake Hold – Modern Convenience for Smarter Driving
At Whitby Oshawa Honda, we pride ourselves on helping drivers understand and get the most out of their Honda’s advanced features—like the Electric Parking Brake with Automatic Brake Hold found in the Honda CR-V Hybrid.
Why It Matters:
This feature adds a new level of ease, convenience, and safety, especially during stop-and-go traffic common in the GTA. The electric parking brake replaces the traditional hand lever or foot pedal, allowing you to engage or release the parking brake with a simple switch. Meanwhile, Automatic Brake Hold maintains braking pressure after you've come to a complete stop—no need to keep your foot on the pedal—releasing only when you step on the accelerator.
How It Works:
-
To activate the parking brake, lift the switch; to release, simply press it down.
-
To enable automatic brake hold, press the button near the shift lever.
-
In stop-and-go traffic, the system will hold the vehicle in place after braking, reducing foot fatigue and improving comfort.
Bonus Convenience:
You can set the electric parking brake to engage automatically each time the ignition is turned off. Just follow these quick steps:
-
With the ignition ON and gear in PARK, ensure the brake pedal is not pressed.
-
Pull up and release the parking brake switch.
-
Pull up and hold the switch until a beep sounds, then release.
-
Within 3 seconds, pull up and hold again until you hear two beeps.
This means your CR-V Hybrid will always secure itself when parked—automatically. If you need to disable it (such as for a conveyor car wash), simply shift to NEUTRAL, turn off the ignition, and push the switch down within 2 seconds.
